New Coffee Bean Addition

Coffee Beans:
It has been more than a week since I  have posted anything on the site.  Some of you may remember reading my January Brewed post, which had the subtitle "New Bean Roasting!".

Then, last Sunday I wrote in my "June Brewed - Coffees Consumed, Games Played" post that, "July is here, and it's going to be crazy busy...".

Well, why is July crazy busy?  Last weekend when I wrote that post, Mrs. Coffee was 9 months pregnant and she had already started having contractions the previous Friday(July 1).  Sunday morning(July 3rd) we went to a church to hear a friend preach the message, and his church was closer to our house than the one we normally go to on Sundays...so we thought we were playing it safe just in case anything happened that morning(contraction wise), we would be closer to home.

Sunday was pretty non-eventful during the day, as for Mrs. Coffee having contractions.  While she had some contractions late Sunday night, they went away and she didn't wake up in the middle of the night with any.

Monday morning, July 4, while I was still passed out, Mrs. Coffee woke up and broke her mid-wife's suggestion to "take it easy", and went on a walk around the neighborhood...HOPING that the walk would get some contractions started, but it did NOTHING.

She drove to Bojangles, and ordered their spicy chicken biscuit...but nothing happened all morning.  For lunch I drove to Chick-Fil-A, not my store but one a little closer to home, and ordered her the spicy chicken salad.  Still, after eating another spicy meal, NOTHING.

Long story short(er), at about 8:25PM Monday night, Mrs. Coffee told me to get ready to leave for the hospital.  I packed up some of our stuff, and our son's stuff because he was staying with some friends.  We dropped off our son at our friends' house a little before 9:00PM.  On the way to the hospital Mrs. Coffee told me and a friend on the phone she wasn't even sure if the hospital would keep us, or just check her and send us home.

We arrived at the hospital and got into a "triage" room at about 9:40PM.
At 10:14PM, our new little guy was born into the world!

So for the last week, we have been adjusting to a new baby and new schedule, and trying to get settled at home.  Both Mrs. Coffee and Bean 2 are doing well, and our oldest (Bean 1) doesn't seem to mind the new addition that much.

Also, within the last week Mrs. Coffee and I had our wedding anniversary!  July isn't even halfway over, and it's already had an exciting start.

We have family that will be visiting us starting later this week, and then throughout the rest of the month.  So with a new baby, a 2 year old, work, spending time with my wife Mrs. Coffee, trying to beat Monster Hunter Tri (yes I've been finding some time for it!), and family about to visit...I may not be posting a lot for the rest of July, but I wanted to give you all an update and share the good news with you.

  4. Awesome! Congrats! Not to outdo you, but I just had my second girl 3 weeks ago. It was so weird the first day my 3 year old met her. She knew she was coming for so long, and she talked about her all the time, but that first day in the hospital she was like a deer in the headlights. I think she was expecting her to come out ready to play and run around or something.

    Also, those receiving blankets, is there like one company in the world that makes those things? I've never seen one different from what you have pictured there.

  5. Congratulations - excellent news indeed and great looking little guy - you've got to be proud (and prolly a bit tired). For what it's worth, I got a TON of gaming in with my 2nd child. Turns out, he would only sleep if I rocked him back and forth in a recliner. I got through more seasons of Madden that way than any other year, ever. i wanna say I got to like season 8 or 9. :P

    And congrats to you as well Chuck.

    Love my 3 kids, but kind of glad to be done with the baby thing now, lol. :)

  7. I think they all start as regular - they're up all night so decaf seems unlikely. :)

  8. Congratulations! Now tell us, he only drinks caffeinated milk doesn't he? Or is he on his 5th little baby cup of dark roast already?

  9. I'm a bit late to the party, but Congratulations Coffee! I remember you mentioned the late June/July timeframe and wondered how that was going. I hope things are well and the middle of the night routine isn't too bad.

    @Chuck:
    I know, that is _THE_ hospital blanket for some reason. I thought it was just some outdated ugly stuff our hospital had. :) Also, congratulations to you too!

    It's baby city here. Well, our second is due later this year right about the time our first turns two. We also just found out yesterday that it's a boy.

    There's certainly something to be said for having children in your 20's vs mid 30's...

  10. @The Strikester:
    Thanks for the congrats!

    @BitNick:
    He is still doing well, eating and gaining weight as they do.

    @GamesAndBiz:
    Thanks for the congrats as well!

    @Chuckpebble:
    Congratulations on your new addition as well!
    Our 2 year old came up to the hospital the first day, and didn't pay any attention to the new guy at all. He was more entertained with buttons on the bed, and looking out the window(where he spotted the med-helicopter taking off).

    Now that we've been home a while he still doesn't pay him much attention, but if he starts crying he says, "Baby Jacob.", or "Baby cry."

    "Also, those receiving blankets, is there like one company in the world that makes those things?"
    Interesting...I wonder which company makes them, and how they won that contract! Crazy it seems they aren't more localized, and seem to be more nationally distributed.

    @Chalgyr:
    "Turns out, he would only sleep if I rocked him back and forth in a recliner."
    Kind of interesting, we just got a recliner this past week thanks to my mom-in-law!

    @Tim:
    Thank you for the comment!

    @Brad J. (The Butcher):
    As Chalgyr said most are regular, though he might be half-decaf. He seems to be sleeping well for the most part, and waking usually only when it's time to eat.

    Our 2+ year old though, he's Regular 24/7..and yet doesn't even drink coffee. I don't know where he gets the energy from, but I will bottle it and sell if I ever find out!

    @Jonath:
    Haha, as mentioned right above, no coffee for the little guys. Our other son is just over 2 years old and he doesn't drink coffee, though he can say "coffee" and he has even assisted me in making coffee.

    @Robert:
    "I hope things are well and the middle of the night routine isn't too bad."

    Yea, it was every 2-3-ish hours for the first 2 weeks, now it's about every 3-4 hours.

    Also, congrats on your second one expected later this year!

    Thank you all for the comments and thoughts!

  11. Grats. Kid #2 doesn't make it twice the work, kid #2 multiplies the work exponentially, fyi.
