Last week, on the one year anniversary for the game, I hopped online to do some monster hunting. I was able to join up with a few other monster hunters, from NinTemple.com and NintendoWorldReport.com, and monster hunt for a few hours. We hunted a lot of monsters, most of which I had never hunted or seen before in the game, and I had a lot of fun.
One monster hunter, that wasn't able to get online last Wednesday, requested a Great Jaggi to be hunted in his "honor". The video below is of a group of us that honored that request, as we went on a Great Jaggi hunt!
As for the game-play hours, I think the data reported is awesome for a third party game on the Wii. With the average hours reported "Per person" increasing at a steady rate, I wonder if/when the game will reach an average reported play-time of 100 Hours "Per person".
If you're thinking, "Coffee, the average play-time is 90 Hours 25 Minutes 'Per person', what's your time with Monster Hunter 3?" Well, I passed the average just in the last week, and the image below shows my total time, as reflected on the game's menu:
96 Hours 20 Minutes for me! |

Well for my main character I have 1,213:51 hours with my main character.I'm Hunter Rank 291.
ReplyDeleteI have a second character but I haven't taken that one online yet.That one has 21 hours.
Main character is called Maxi.
I usually get on around 8pm PST for weekdays.Weekends I get on around noon and stay on for the majority of the day.
Wow, those stats are utterly amazing.
ReplyDeleteI kind of gave up on this game after about 30 hours. I like everything about it in theory, but something about the execution just never quite clicked with me.
Still, good to see Capcom's found a big player base with this game in the West.
Those stats are amazing and very surprising. How do they stack up against other big franchises?
ReplyDeleteI watched the video and while I don't think it's my cup of joe, it certainly had some interesting moments. The chaos of the fight with all the players was cool along with the saurs and their movements.
On a lighter note could that sword be any bigger? I thought it was also hilarious when your character changed from the usual "head forward" running to some kind of high steppin' thing.
One interesting aspect is the bundle as the controller ends up being less than $10. (vs $20 in goldeneye or $15-20 on it's own)
That's awesome! Glad to see the game doing well. It deserves it. I have around 300 hours over the course of the year, HR 73. It's a fun game and definitely puts up a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThat video wasn't a real good showcase of Tri. I admit I wasn't that good of a hammer user then.Its kinda hard when fighting a monster that small and not affecting your teammates. We had a few more quests after that and they worked better since each person had a certain part to attack so we were generally not affecting each other.Generally each of the weapons work best on a certain part of the monster.Hammers tend to work best on the Head.Switchaxes,long swords and Great swords work best on the tail Lances and sword and shield work best on the body.This kinda changes once the tail gets cut off and the Great Sword can work on the head if properly timed with the Hammer.
ReplyDeleteHey guys. I stopped reporting my game play hours after I hit 200 hours on this game. Right now, my first character is at around 500, second is around 200. So yeah. Squeezed more than my money's worth out of this bad boy.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting on now if anybody wants to play.
ReplyDelete@Maxi:
ReplyDelete"Well for my main character I have 1,213:51 hours with my main character. I'm Hunter Rank 291."
Your hours with just your main character, are about what the Top 4 games, combined, are reported on our Nintendo Channel!
@GamesAndBiz:
"I like everything about it in theory, but something about the execution just never quite clicked with me."
Do you think it was the combat, with the slower attacks, and the lack of a lock-on feature?
"Still, good to see Capcom's found a big player base with this game in the West."
I agree, and I hope this means more from them in the future!
@Robert:
"How do they stack up against other big franchises?"
Third party franchises, it's really good. As for the "Total Hours", it's not anywhere near some Nintendo franchises, but the hours "Per person" are incredible.
"On a lighter note could that sword be any bigger? I thought it was also hilarious when your character changed from the usual "head forward" running to some kind of high steppin' thing."
The sword is a GREAT sword, :)
Yea, the running is awesome, and I remember I was sooo excited when I finally discovered that in the demo...it helps A LOT.
"I watched the video and while I don't think it's my cup of joe, it certainly had some interesting moments. The chaos of the fight with all the players was cool along with the saurs and their movements."
As Maxi said, the video wasn't the BEST, but it was the Great Jaggi hunt that was "requested", so I posted it up. I recorded a lot of other hunts that night, and should be getting another video uploaded in the next week.
I also have several "single" hunts recorded, of just me hunting monsters, so those may give you a good idea of the single-player aspect as well, and I'll try to get some of those hunts up also.
@Steve:
"It's a fun game and definitely puts up a challenge."
Very, very, very much so. The challenge is one of the most interesting things in the game I think, in the way it progresses. I remember playing the demo thinking, "THERE's NO WAY to beat this guy!" Then after about 20-30 attempts, it was getting easier to learn what to do, and when to attack.
@Maxi(again):
"This kinda changes once the tail gets cut off and the Great Sword can work on the head if properly timed with the Hammer."
Yea, I would say the Great Sword is decent for hitting the feet/legs of some of the larger guys as well...as it has the nice sweeping attack.
@Chuckpebble:
Ah, so no more Tri for you, as of now? I remember when you said this was the game you would play early in the morning after brewing some coffee!
Thank you all for the comments/feedback! If anybody else wants to add a friend code/name, feel free to do so and join the conversation.
@Coffee - I liked the combat, actually. I think the problem is probably more to do with the lack of a cohesive story or setting. The clash between MMO concepts, and "level" based design just doesn't sit well with me, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with the other Monster Hunter games. Perhaps a offshoot Monster Hunter RPG could be produced - I would be down for that in a heartbeat.
I sort of feel bad when it comes to this game. i really like it so far, but haven't been able to put much time into it. it's almost like the game's got too much going on with it for its own good because I keep tabling it in favor of other games I know I can 'get through' instead.
ReplyDeleteGreat poost thankyou
