Call of Duty: Black Ops is the first Wii game released, that uses the new PDP Headbanger Chat Headset.

Filtered Thoughts:
Number of Players - GoldenEye 007 had 398 more Wii owners reporting their play-time data for its debut, than Call of Duty: Black Ops did.
Number of Hours - Call of Duty: Black Ops had 46,162 more reported game-play hours for its debut, than GoldenEye 007 did. Black Ops' average time played "Per person" was 8 Hours 12 Minutes higher, than GoldenEye 007's; and Black Ops' average play-time, per session, was 45 minutes higher, than GoldenEye's.
I was really surprised that both GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops took 21 days to have game-play data debut. While 21 days is definitely not bad, there are a few third party games that have debuted in only 2-weeks.
Considering that Activision focused mainly on promoting GoldenEye 007 for the Wii with lots of interviews and trailers, while releasing little, to no information, screens, or trailers for Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii; the number of players reporting play-time data for Call of Duty: Black Ops is closer to GoldenEye 007's number of players, than I thought it would be.
I really expected GoldenEye 007's debut play-time hours, to be ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops' debut hours; due to Black Ops lack of promotion on the Wii. Even with GoldenEye 007 initially having more players reporting data, Call of Duty: Black Ops' average and "Total Hours" played, I think shows that some Wii owners do enjoy the "hardcore" FPS games.
Sales Ranks & Review Scores - Right now, I'm sure a lot of Wii owners have one, or both, of these games on their Christmas lists; so I think it will be interesting to see how both games continue to perform, after the Christmas holiday.
As for the review score averages, I think it's pretty clear Activision's promotion of GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, helped get the game into more "reviewers" hands. The current number of reviews on both games, 47 for GoldenEye and 9 for Black Ops; I think shows that Activision didn't really bother with sending out Wii review copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and just focused on GoldenEye.

I really think it was because Nintendo, or Activision, was late in getting the games listed on the Nintendo Channel, and when the Nintendo Channel had its weekly updates, 2-weeks after each game released, no data was provided because the games weren't listed.
Now, some of you may be wondering, "Well, GoldenEye 007 didn't have as many hours for its debut, but how is it comparing now?"
As you can tell from that image, even with a week head-start, GoldenEye 007 is still behind Call of Duty: Black Ops' reported game-play hours, which just debuted this past week.
I am still playing GoldenEye 007 on the Wii, and enjoying it; and I am also playing Call of Duty: Black Ops, but I'm playing that on my PS3.
If Black Ops' online multi-player is running smoothly on the Wii, I think from this initial data, that it will continue to have higher game-play hours and averages reported.

Questions:
If you have played GoldenEye 007 and Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Wii, what do you think of both games? Do you think Black Ops will continue to be played more than GoldenEye?
If you have only played one of these games, which game have you played, and what do you think of it?
If anybody is interested in either Call of Duty: Black Ops or GoldenEye 007 for the Wii, you can see prices for both games on Amazon.com below:
played Goldeneye more to a point i sold my 360 with black ops and subscription because i also saw a video interview 4 Conduit 2 and it looks as good as Halo 360 graphically and has more modes of play than COD BO and its got IR with Motion + and wi-fi is FREE plus u get DKCR/KIRBYS aswell 4 me with these games the wii doesnt need a follow up it needs more publishers giving the same freedom to devs as 360/ps3 i mean looking at recent wii graphics devs havnt even got started yet Wii2 in dec 2013 would be fine with me although Nintendo would need an official HD/HDMI upscaler lead around the time of 3DS so people get to see what certain games really look like at there best.
ReplyDeleteGoing off recent wii graphics what i meant was there all of a sudden amazing and devs need to carry on with high quality on wii and it will be fine Last Story/Conduit 2 should give the 360 a run 4 its money if not suurpass it Mistwalker dev seems to think it looks as good as a ps3 game of late.
ReplyDeleteIve been playing both games but Id say Ive played Black Ops just a bit more. My brother has it so we play together regularly. Goldeneye gets more single player time here. But Goldeneye does get plenty of multiplayer playtime when I get my friends over and we play splitscreen, which is awesome. But its usually just once a week cuz everyone cant always get together. Both games are great. I've bought so many games for the wii as of late.

ReplyDeleteThe Motion+ support in Conduit 2 doesn't seem like it's going to effect a lot, compared to the original game's controls.
"the wii doesnt need a follow up it needs more publishers giving the same freedom to devs as 360/ps3"
I agree with this a lot; and I wish Nintendo would help in this area, by contracting more second/third party developers like Microsoft and Sony do.
I wish Nintendo would finally enter the FPS genre, and stick with it.
I think the main issue with Wii games, from what I think I have read, is that they show up with a lot of jagged edges on new HD TVs...so, perhaps an upscaler or some sort could be beneficial.
@Edward:
I haven't tried the local multi-player with anybody yet in GoldenEye, but I did try it myself, just to see the differences in the maps and look at some of the characters.
Thank you both for the comments and feedback!
I have both games and I have enjoyed playing them both. I finished the single player campaign in Golden Eye, and I also play online quite a bit. I finished the campaign for Black Ops on the PS3, but I am currently playing Black Ops online on the Wii as I do much better with the Wii remote and nunchuk than I do with dual analog in the online matches. Both are great games, and I feel that Black Ops for Wii is virtually unknown and underrated. I am hoping for good things from the Conduit 2. I thought the first one was pretty forgettable.
ReplyDelete@Marky:
ReplyDeleteI bought the PS3 version of Black Ops, and have said repeatedly that I really want to try the Wii version...because I prefer my FPS games with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controls.
If you're still playing GoldenEye online, feel free to add my friend code, 2043-7355-3797 user name - Coffee, and hopefully we can play some matches together!
Like you, I am also hoping for good things from Conduit 2, but I'm going to have to complete my New Year's resolution QUICKLY if I'm going to play Conduit 2 on release!
Thanks for the feedback, and if you add my GoldenEye friend code, you can either leave your's here in the comments, or email it to me at Scott(@)CoffeewithGames.com.
