The last time I compared the game-play data for The Conduit(TCon), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex(CoD:MWR), and Red Steel 2(RS2) together, was on July 6.

Thoughts:
Amazon.com has been out-of-stock of The Conduit, basically every day I have checked, since July. Red Steel 2 seems to be having issues with staying in-stock, directly from Amazon.com also. I don't know if the issue is supply from Sega and Ubisoft for the games, or if demand has decreased enough for Amazon.com to request copies less frequently.
Also, I think it is interesting this is the first time since I have compared these games directly, that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex has more players reporting play-time data, than The Conduit does.
Questions:
Has anybody picked up Red Steel 2 since it received a price drop back in July? Also, if anybody owns any of these FPSes, have you found yourself playing any of them recently; or have you moved onto other Wii games right now?
I still have not played either Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex or Red Steel 2, perhaps that will change in the next few months.

I own all three games, but i've since moved on. Reasons being poor online moderation, and weak replay value.
ReplyDeleteI stopped playing The Conduit when the uncontrollable hacking got worse. It's a shame considering I really enjoyed the online. While Call of Duty's online is worlds better, It just fails to hold my interest. The "one shot, one kill" multiplayer turns me off to it.
Red Steel 2 is complicated to explain. It's a good game, but there's just no replay value. I enjoyed what time I spent with it, but after the quick and abrupt ending, I was sorely disappointed. I paid 50 dollars for it, and I feel I paid too much. One of the followers on my blog described it best by saying "Red Steel 2 is a poor man's Borderlands with a samurai theme".
@beatbox:
ReplyDeleteI only owned The Conduit, but traded it off last October because of the glitchy online it had...but I may be getting the game back now.
I haven't purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex, or Red Steel 2; though I did reserve Red Steel 2, but ended up getting Monster Hunter Tri instead.
I really enjoyed Call of Duty: World at War on the Wii, and even setup a rental program at a local game store to try and rent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex; but there only copy was "missing" for almost 2 months, so I canceled the program.
Thanks for the comment, and I should be following your site now also!
I haven't played Conduit in months and same goes for Red Steel 2 (beat it 4 times).I never did buy Call of Duty games before but that may change with Black-Ops depending on its reviews compared to Golden Eye 007's.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Red Steel 2 for the most part.The graphics, controls and combat were very enjoyable. However, the repetitive mission structure, few dull boss battles and lack of replay value hurt really hurt the game's overall presentation.
I have been spending most of my gaming time playing Monster Hunter Tri online on a daily basis for the past two months. Quite frankly, it's the only current game I play online.

I own Monster Hunter Tri, as do several other regular readers here. My online name/code for Monster Hunter Tri is: Coffee/KKJ9F2.
I just received The Conduit in the mail, so if you want to try and get in some online matches, let me know. My email is: Scott@CoffeewithGames.com.
I loved the multiplayer in Conduit but it has game breaking glitches and is now hacked to hell. Not much fun when people are cheating all over the place.
ReplyDeleteCan't speak for Reflex but he same is true for WaW now too. Too many hackers ruining the multiplayer.
Hopefully the promised patching in CoD:BO and Conduit 2 will end those issues.
Red Steel 2 is more a hack&slash than a FPS. While there's some fun to be had, that game was a massive disappointment to me. No FPS online, no hack&slash multiplayer, no depth of story or gameplay. Terrible game design (constantly having to return to base) which compounds the unacceptably long load times for small areas. Repetitive. No replay value. If it has on the HD consoles it'd score in the 60's not 80's. I enjoyed the original, and keep it around for years just for the split-screen multi-player. But after 5 hrs I traded in RS2.
Grr. An error messed up the message I wrote up.
ReplyDeleteShortened version; I got Red Steel 2 a short time before the price drop. I really liked Red Steel, so I'm not crazy about the changes, and slowly working my way through it. Conduit was played a lot, but not so much anymore. Ready to move onto a new online FPS (GoldenEye seems to be the one after Conduit 2 got pushed back).

The glitches/bugs were one of the main reasons I traded my copy off last year, but now I own the game again...
@WesFX:
I HATE when my comments mess up after I have typed them out! I'm not sure what it is, but sometimes I will have typed out several paragraphs, responding to readers...then hit submit, and "Poof!" like magic, it disappears.
I have learned now, to "copy" every comment before hitting submit, that way I can just paste it back if it happens.
I really don't know why Ubisoft abandoned the original Red Steel's engine. I think for a Wii launch FPS, it was impressive(even compared to some Wii FPS games released later).
I would have liked to see Red Steel, somehow incorporated with Red Steel 2, as maybe like a "NPC Red Steel and Red Steel 2 WM+ Bundle".
I am excited for Goldeneye, but I have reservations about it as well. I just hope they have the online working, and working well.
If you get it, and I get it...perhaps we can play some matches together.(as well as any other CwG readers!)
Thank you both for the comments!
Yeah definitely. I'll try to remember when I grab the game.
