Chart Info:
The chart above shows the sales ranks for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, with data captured between June 27, 2010 and August 5, 2010. The higher the line on the chart, the better the sales rank is for the game.
There are thirty-two sales ranks used in the chart, with the date and approximate time captured shown on the chart.

The lowest sale rank for Sin & Punishment: Star Successor was #1,158, on August 5, around 2:30AM.
Critical Reception:
Being that Sin & Punishment: Star Successor was released in Japan in October 2009, and in Europe on May 7; reviews for the game started being published for those versions well before the North American version was released.
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor currently has a review score average of 86.18%, based on 37 reviews from GameRankings.com.
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor's customer review score average on Amazon.com has a current average of about 4 out of 5 Stars. The 4 out 5 Star customer rating would put the game at about an 80% review score average, so a little lower than the "professional" review score average.
Thoughts:
When Nintendo released a commercial for the game back in June, it made me wonder what the impact would be on the sales for the game. I never recorded Sin & Punishment: Star Successor's sales rank above 100, and it seems like the game has fallen off rather quickly on the Amazon.com charts.
When the NPD data was released for June, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor wasn't listed in the "Top 20", and by looking at the sales data from Amazon.com, it is probably safe to say it won't appear on July's NPD "Top 20" report either.
Questions:
If you played Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, would you recommend the game to Wii owners at its current price?
If you are interested in Sin & Punishment: Star Successor, you can see prices for it on Amazon.com below:
The game is great, but it's really not a mainstream game, so low sales were expected.
ReplyDeleteI do recommend it. It's a similar experience to StarFox 64, because you can beat it quickly, but you'll want to play it over and over again.
I would recommend the game, and I really wish I had purchased the game already. I'd say the game is worth $50 for those who think they will enjoy it, because there aren't too many games like it. It's a great game, and fun to replay. I do wonder if or when the price will drop.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with Mr. Anonymous up there. It's not really a mainstream type of game and wont sell too well, much like all the other Wii games that sold not so well (DeadSpace, Madworld etc). What does well on Wii, Mario, Guitar Hero, RockBand, Call of Duty, Mainstream.
ReplyDeleteGreat Game and I think its worth the price. Maybe $39.99 it would look more appealing to people.
39.99 should have been the price point for mare people to pick it up but i do not regret the 50 dollar investment. It is a lot like starfox and the enjoyment comes in trying to replay the levels and do better each time.
ReplyDeleteI think the game is great but honestly this type of game is no longer on the forefront of the videogames lines. It has ben wiped away and replaced with ultra realistic first person shooters and games that pander to the mainstream gamer.
Great Game, but it definitely a shorter game--probably one of the better games on the Wii...great gameplay and its a pretty beautiful game as well(other than cutscenes) Story is forgettable, but who needs story when you get to blast the sh*t out of hundreds of baddies. Definitely has high replay value...especially if you are the kind of person that is looking to get the high score--as it posts all the scores nation wide...and I am still in awe of how high some of the scores are.
ReplyDeleteSo would definitely recommend it at a proice point of $50--and I bought it at that.

I think the online leaderboards may help with the replay value also, and it's interesting you compared it to StarFox 64; that's the first time I have heard it compared to that game.

Yea, there aren't a lot of games like Sin & Punishment Star Successor published these days on consoles, though that may help the game have continued sales.
"It's a great game, and fun to replay. I do wonder if or when the price will drop."
The part above, about not many games like S&P2 being published on consoles, makes me wonder how soon it will/won't drop in price. The sales chart I think shows it is struggling in that department, but it may be enough to keep the price at $50.

Don't forget Just Dance and Carnival Games!

I wonder why so few companies have taken the NFL 2K5 approach and eve The Orange Box approach when it comes to pricing games?
$20 or $30 for a new game, at release is really appealing. I wonder what the loss/gain percentage is of profit/buyers when companies do that...

I really enjoy attempting high scores in games. I like when games put online leaderboards in, like Sin and Punishment Star Successor did.
Thank you all for the comments and thoughts on the game!
