Quick Brew Info:
ModNation Racers was released yesterday for the PS3 and the PSP.
The PS3 version was developed by United Front Games, and the game features online play for up to 12-players at a time, with 2-player online split-screen as well. The game also features a local 4-player multiplayer mode.
ModNation Racers also features a track editor, and the tracks can be shared and raced on over the PlayStation Network with friends, or foes!
Chart Info:
The chart shows the sales ranks for the PS3 version of ModNation Racers. I started recording the sales ranks for ModNation Racers on April 23.
From April 23 through May 25, the lowest sales rank I recorded was #76 on April 25, at 3:00AM
The highest sales rank I recorded for ModNation Racers was #5 on May 24, around 10:25PM.
Critical Reception & Influence:
So far, ModNation Racers on the PS3 has an 84.48% review score average on GameRankings.com, based on 26 reviews.
(Too high? Too low? Just right?)
The chart shows the largest single day increase in sales ranks was from May 3 to May 4.
On May 3 around 7:40PM, it was ranked #56.
On May 4 around 11:40PM, it was ranked #35.
It jumped twenty-one spots in sales ranks, in a little more than 24-hours.
Why do I think that happened?
They gave the game a 9.0 out of 10, and I think the review had a direct correlation with the game's Amazon.com sales rank increasing by twenty-one places.
Thoughts:
I played the PS3 demo of ModNation Racers late last week, and again today. I think the racing is fun, and and it looks like the game is going to be a very solid kart racer for PS3 owners.
I have not purchased ModNation Racers yet, but the demo does make me interested in the game.
In putting together the chart, I tried to look for outside factors that may have affected the game's sales ranks.
The IGN.com review score was the only factor, that seemed very likely, that I was able to find.
I do not know if Sony has aired any television commercials for the game, though I did search for this information. The only information I was able to find was they posted a YouTube commercial up on April 21; but I was not able to find information on what the first day a television commercial for ModNation Racers, actually aired was.
Questions:
Have you purchased ModNation Racers? If you have been playing it, what do you think of it? Good or bad?
If you have not purchased it, do you plan on purchasing it in the near future?
Do you think it was IGN.com's review, that caused the game to increase the twenty-one spots within one day?
Here's a video of my second race in the demo, I think I needed more coffee!

afte the update, the frME rAte is like butter
ReplyDeletethis was the only bad point in he beta,. and ow its fuxed, - got my copy. its filthy,.
The game is awesome, but the load times are long, just as stated in most reviews. There have been commercials (there's a Dear Playstation commercial that has been airing for over two weeks) and it was shown on the TV show "Community" at about the same time as the commercial started. If they fix the load times via a patch, the game will be more fun for me than LBP. The track editor is insane and on day 1 there were already tons of great tracks to download. The best ones are the ones that remake other games tracks (ie High Speed Ring from Gran Turismo, etc.). I plan on trying to remake tracks from Rumble Racing, a little known gem from the PS2 era.
ReplyDeleteI bought it yesterday. Totally incredibly impressed. First time in months I haven't payed mag at least once during the day. I spent probably an hour downloading racers, karts, and tracks. Everything from shaggy and the mystery wagon, optimus prime and bumblebee, too motorstorm, gran turusmo, and mario kart tracks. Epic game.
ReplyDeleteI picked it up on launch day and have been enjoying it a ton with my girlfriend. The split-screen multiplayer brings back tons of memories from a bygone era and the racing and weapons are fantastically tuned and feature an amount of depth not found in similar offerings.
ReplyDeleteThe only complaint I have with the title is the ridiculously long load times. They are truly noticeable, but thankfully United Front Games announced before the official launch date that they were working on a patch that would optimize loading and thus speed up load times. In the end, it doesn't really break the game, its just somewhat annoying.
I plan on getting it sometime in the near future.

I've only played the demo. It's seems like a competent cart racer. I was having trouble with the steering. It felt a little loose to me and I kept crashing into walls. Maybe it was the default kart they gave me in the demo. Anyone else notice that. Yeah load times are a bit long.
ReplyDeleteThis game was really fun, played it yesterday on my friend's PS3. - Josh

ReplyDeleteI didn't really notice any frame rate issues in the demo, was it just in the beta for it?
@Anonymous from May 26, 2010 at 1:38PM:
Have you tried the track editor yet for yourself?
I'm going to try it in the demo later this week, and see what I can create.
@Broccoli:
How long until MAG draws you back in? I played the demo/beta for it. It was interesting; it seemed like the type of game to play on a continuous basis with the same group of people.
@Kris:
I have read the load times are crazy, hopefully the patch will be out soon to fix them.
@SuperPhillip:
Hmmm, I wonder what you'll think of it compared to the other kart racing games you have played.
@The Butcher:
The steering was "loose" at first, hence my awesome driving at the beginning of the video; but I adjusted to it pretty quickly.
@Wii Game Previews:
Hey Josh, did you play the demo or the retail copy?
Has any other reader, played the game, but not commented yet? If so, what do you think of it?
Thanks to everybody for the comments and thoughts on the game!
